The 48 Class is a class of diesel locomotives built by AE Goodwin, Auburn for the New South Wales Department of Railways between 1959 and 1970. Once the most ubiquitous locomotive in New South Wales, Australia, it is based on Alco frames and prime movers, using General Electric (later Associated Electrical Industries) electrical equipment.

Here is the NSWGR 48 Class; built by AE Goodwin between 1959 and 1970. The 48 Class is a majority ALCO but with GE electrical equipment. There are 8 48 Classes preserved; but a majority are still in service, either heavily rebuilt by their new owners (and becoming a new class) or scrapped.

These vehicles were attached to the Rail Crane & Match Truck (formally NSWGR 48 class locomotive 48131) and travelled the state on recovery missions. The NSWGR 48 class diesel electric locomotive was part of a total of 212 Goodwin Alco DL531 locomotives built from the late 1950s onwards. Significant numbers are still in regular use in New South Wales and South Australia. The kit was a joint venture between O-Aust Kits and Bergs Hobbies. The model consists of pewter, lost wax and polyurethane.
